Talking about the startup Bookmyshow, it should be known that this unique startup was founded in the year 2007 by a trio of Ashish Hemrajani, Parikshit Dar, and Rajesh Balpande. It is an online platform catering the entertainment needs of the people by letting them book movie and event tickets through its website and app. Recently, BookMyShow acquired a stake of about 75% in Townscript. The amount of the stake was not disclosed. TownScript is a Pune based startup that allows its users to ticket their own events. It was founded in the year 2014 by Sachin Sharma and Sanchit Malik. Furthermore, Townscript gives access to users towards creating their own registration for their events and charge as and when needed. It earns revenue by charging 4 percent on transactions along with US$0.15 per booking. It even keeps a track of event progress and purchaser demographics through data analytics. It won’t be wrong to say that TicketScript is India’s answer to the self booking site Eventbrite.
The acquisition done by BookMyShow will allow it to explore similar services which it has been trying to come up with on its own from a long time. Few months back, BookMyShow also acquired ticketing platform MastiTickets.
