In a landmark initiative, India, the United States, the United Arab Emirates, and Israel, colloquially referred to as I2U2, have unveiled a collaborative project designed to galvanize private sector investment and proficiency. This alliance is purposed to augment capabilities in crucial developmental domains.
On Thursday, the U.S formalized an agreement by signing a memorandum of understanding with the respective business councils of the coalition countries, establishing the I2U2 Private Enterprise Partnership (PEP). This partnership is manifested from the collective unity of the four nations—India, Israel, the United States, and the United Arab Emirates, who initially formulated this collaboration during a virtual summit last year. The collective enterprise arising from this accord is named the I2U2 Business Council (BC).
Jose W Fernandez, the U.S Under Secretary of State for Economic Growth, appended his signature to the MoU alongside representatives from the US-UAE Business Council, the UAE-India Business Council, and the UAE-Israel Business Council. This event was conducted in parallel to the UN General Assembly meeting.
Dammu Ravi, the Secretary overseeing economic relations in India’s External Affairs Ministry, was a part of the signing ceremony, accompanied by officials from the participating nations. Ravi conveyed, through a video message, the synergy this collaborative endeavor will bring, enhancing the developmental potential and collective affluence of the involved regions. He stated, “This will help to synergize the potential of all the four members for the collective prosperity of the region.”
The State Department elucidated that this innovative public-private collaboration aims to elevate the visibility of the I2U2 initiative within the business spheres and will advocate for projects and undertakings aligning with the initiative’s objectives.
The MoU delineated the initiative’s aspirations to accentuate the capabilities of the I2U2 initiative, especially focusing on seven pivotal sectors including water, energy, transportation, technology, space, health, and food security. It aspires to engage the private sectors from the I2U2 countries to pinpoint, scrutinize, and engage in distinctive projects that align with the initiative’s objectives.
In accordance with the MoU, the I2U2 BC plans to collaborate with the State Department to orchestrate events involving the governments of the four nations. It also plans to host a series of business-focused working group discussions and release publications from think tanks and scholars hailing from the coalition countries, fostering a shared understanding and perspective on developmental priorities and strategies.
This coalition represents a cohesive effort to amalgamate the specialized knowledge and resources of the private sectors from the four countries. It underscores the collective ambition to bolster development and innovation in pivotal sectors, addressing the multifaceted challenges and exploring the myriad of opportunities in the contemporary global landscape. The I2U2 Private Enterprise Partnership epitomizes the convergence of shared visions and mutual goals aimed at fostering regional prosperity and sustainable development through collaborative endeavors.
