Postman is a Bangalore based startup which assists developers in building, sharing and testing application programming interfaces (APIs). It was founded in 2012 by Abhinav Asthana, Ankit Sobti and Abhijit Kane. It provides free apps for Chrome, Widows and Mac to build APIs. Incorporated in 2014, Postman has a 15 member team around Bangalore, San Francisco and Austin. It has more than 3 million active installations and approx 1.5 million active monthly users across 30,000 companies. Also, the apps of Postman are believed to be downloaded 10,000 times every day. For accessing cloud based APIs, there are options of payment. Postman cloud is a paid product which comes with a subscription service. It provides additional collaboration, documentation tools and testing for both small and large teams. It also lets developers’ access extensive APIs libraries. In addition, Postman also comes with an enterprise option.
Today the world has become globally and technologically interconnected through apps so APIs have paved avenues for new dimensions and possibilities. In this context, Postman has acquired a funding of $7 million from Nexus venture partners which will be used in marketing and developing. Last year, the company has also grabbed a funding of US$1 million in seed round from investors whose names were not disclosed.
APIs lets one application to work with another. For instance, an app for food delivery or taxi services can take the use of Google maps because Google maps comes with an API which opens up a part of its code for an exterior app for accessing. The managing director of Nexus venture partners, Jishnu Bhattcharjee is now on Postman’s board and believes the potential of huge growth in Postman. According to ProgrammableWeb the figure of public APIs has increased from 5000 in 2012 to approx 16000 currently. Firms like Box, IBM, Intuit, VMware and Apigee are few of the big names who are Postman’s client. Furthermore, 3 out of 4 accounting firms, 61 out of 100 fortune companies and 9 out of 10 largest retailers use the services of Postman.
