ZilBank, a leading financial technology company in Kerala, India, has launched an innovative programme to foster startups in isolated areas of the state. ZilStart will provide entrepreneurs with access to mentors, venture capitalists, and other experienced professionals in the field. ZilBank will also provide financial assistance to start-up entrepreneurs, so they can develop their businesses and create jobs in their respective regions. In addition, the company will offer workshops and online courses to help entrepreneurs learn the necessary skills to grow their businesses.

The company has previously launched initiatives such as ZilBiz, a business-to-business platform to help small and medium enterprises access credit; and ZilPay, a mobile wallet for money transfers and payments.

Through the launch of its inaugural $1 million ZilStart accelerator programme, ZilBank is leading the way in empowering Kerala’s start-ups in rural and remote areas. The programme provides unparalleled guidance and infrastructural support to entrepreneurs, offering access to mentors, venture capitalists, and other experienced professionals, as well as financial assistance and workshops and online courses. ZilBank is committed to promoting financial inclusion in Kerala, and ZilStart is an important step towards helping entrepreneurs access the resources necessary for success. With this initiative, ZilBank is taking a giant step forward in enabling economic development and financial inclusion in the state.
In a pioneering move, US-based financial entity, ZilBank, led by its CEO and Founder, Sabeer Nelli, has initiated a $1 million start-up accelerator programme. The initiative is designed to support and encourage nascent enterprises in the untapped, remote locales of Kerala. It seeks to not only provide financial aid but also vital mentorship and infrastructural assistance to help them gain a competitive edge in the Information Technology sector.
Sabeer Nelli highlighted the urgent need for young enterprises to shift their focus from offering services to specializing in product development to remain competitive. “Our priority is to impart crucial knowledge and mentorship rather than merely providing funding,” Nelli stated, emphasizing the profound potential available in Kerala, particularly in its more secluded regions.
To kickstart the programme, ten promising start-ups will be chosen to receive a portion of the $1 million fund within the first year. ZilBank plans to expand the number of selected start-ups, depending on the influx of demands and needs. In order to meticulously identify deserving start-ups for the funding, a Hackathon has been scheduled by ZilBank on November 1 at Manjeri in the Malappuram district.
Adding to its commitment to the region’s development, ZilBank has already established a global development centre encompassing 30,000 sq ft in Manjeri and plans to onboard 500 employees in the ongoing year. By launching top-tier facilities in such remote locations, Nelli aims to showcase that these areas can actively contribute to the growth of the IT sector.
This innovative accelerator programme, along with the venture capital fund, is expected to significantly enhance the job market and revolutionize the IT scenario of Malabar. Sabeer Nelli, a native of Malappuram, is a well-acknowledged entrepreneur in the US, known for his successful ventures like Texas-based Tyler Petroleum, listed among America’s swiftly growing private companies, and OnlineCheckWriter.com, a leading B2B payments platform with over 650,000 registered users and transactions exceeding $50 billion.
Further consolidating its initiatives, ZilBank has outlined plans to inaugurate a sprawling 100-acre campus in Kerala. This strategic move is anticipated to blend academic instruction with practical industry exposure, thus equipping students with innovative skills and insights, and acting as a catalyst for technological progression in the region.
