The Centre for Research on Start-ups and Risk Financing (CREST) at the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Madras has unveiled an exclusive information platform aimed at incubators and accelerators. This move marks a strategic effort by the Institute of Eminence Research Centre to consolidate and simplify access to crucial resources for startups.
The challenge of navigating through about 1,000 active incubators in India has long been a hurdle for emerging businesses. Recognizing this gap, CREST, in partnership with YNOS, an IIT Madras-incubated startup, developed this comprehensive platform to provide startups with much-needed guidance and support in their initial, uncertain stages of development.
Professor A. Thillai Rajan of IIT Madras, the Principal Investigator at CREST, emphasized the indispensable role of incubators in the startup world. “During the critical early months, startups are particularly vulnerable and require extensive support, mentoring, and resources,” he noted. The platform is designed to enhance the accessibility of these essential services, facilitating startups’ connections with investors, experts, and infrastructure.
The ‘Incubators’ platform is distinguished by its use of cutting-edge technology, including AI, to analyze India’s incubator and accelerator landscape comprehensively. Its user-friendly interface features intuitive filters for various parameters, allowing entrepreneurs to easily identify and shortlist incubators that meet their specific needs. Additionally, the platform includes a bookmarking feature for in-depth assessment of chosen incubators at a later stage.
Dr. Jayesh Ranjan, Principal Secretary in the Government of Telangana and a board member of T-Hub, India’s largest incubator, officially launched the platform in Hyderabad. “The growth of India’s startup ecosystem is deeply interconnected with the strength of our incubator network,” Dr. Ranjan stated. He also highlighted the platform’s potential to significantly benefit entrepreneurs by presenting a range of incubation opportunities and aiding in the selection of the most suitable incubator.
This initiative by IIT Madras is expected to make a substantial impact on the Indian startup landscape, streamlining the process of finding and leveraging incubator and accelerator resources and fostering a more supportive environment for emerging businesses.
