Chennai-based startup Raptee has launched its first electric motorcycle. The unveiling took place at the company’s newly operational manufacturing facility in Chennai, signaling Raptee’s readiness to roll out its innovative products to a growing market of eco-conscious consumers.
Raptee, founded in 2019, has carved a niche as a full-stack electric motorcycle startup, and is the first Indian Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) to develop ‘High Voltage Powertrain’ technology for the two-wheeler industry, a technology that has been a mainstay in the passenger car sector until now.
Dinesh Arjun, CEO and co-founder of Raptee, shared his vision during the launch, stating, “For over four years, we have been passionately crafting electric motorcycles that offer more than just an alternative to traditional internal combustion engine vehicles. Today marks a milestone not just in our company’s journey but also in our commitment to delivering a thrilling, tech-savvy, and safe riding experience free from range anxiety.”
The first batch of these motorcycles will undergo rigorous testing and homologation processes, including obtaining ARAI certification and on-road safety checks to adhere to the highest standards of quality and performance.
In an innovative approach to market entry, Raptee is also opening its first experiential store at the Chennai facility. This venue will serve as both a retail point and a brand experience hub, offering potential buyers and visitors a walkthrough of the manufacturing processes and a firsthand look at the assembly of these cutting-edge machines.
Jayapradeep Vasudevan, CBO of Raptee, detailed their forward-looking distribution strategy, “Our preparedness extends beyond manufacturing to establishing a strong distribution network beginning in Chennai and eventually covering other cities across India. Our integrated online and offline channels are designed to enhance customer experience throughout their journey with Raptee.”
Positioned in Chennai, a city with a rich automotive history and robust infrastructure, Raptee’s strategic location leverages local resources and expertise in automotive manufacturing, providing a springboard for its ambitious plans.
As Raptee gears up for a nationwide expansion, its launch is set against the backdrop of an increasing shift towards electric vehicles, driven by global sustainability efforts and a domestic push for cleaner energy solutions. This marks a significant step towards transforming urban mobility and setting new benchmarks in the two-wheeler segment.
